[having been eeeeeeever so slightly derailed from what should've been a very easy and simple pickup at maccadam's between movies:] Twitch, I'm just coming back to the movie room now. Are you still there?

[Twitch doesn't answer at first. Doesn't know how to answer. She knows what the answer is, but everything is a flurry inside her.]

I'm here.

[he's back soon, with his long strides. optimus immediately beelines over to where she is, still where they'd been happily watching movies. his spark twists at the thought that once again, all the terrans had been trying to do is be together and live normally but cybertronian nonsense pulled them apart.

he takes a knee and curls a hand around where she is, protectively, maybe expressing a bit too much of how he feels in that action alone.]

We will find her.

[She all but throws herself into his hand, wrapping and curling herself around it. Any little bit of familiar comfort is welcome at the moment. She doesn't often wish she was smaller, but right now she wishes she was teeny tiny so she could just disappear too, so he could close her up in his palms like a bug and block out the world.]

What if she never comes back?

[Her voice is small, broken, hopeless.]

[he shifts into a more comfortable position for them both, and looks at where the tray of magnets fell. where megatron got out of his seat with such force it was pushed back slightly, and the fight he's only just come back from.

what if she doesn't? what if she's just gone like nightshade and they have no idea where either of them are and if they're even safe or...

what does he tell twitch? all that keeps coming back into his head is a prodigiously useless i don't know. but he can't say that. he can't let her know his own doubts and fears, not when shes overloaded on her own.]

Then we will find out the reason for why this has happened at all.

[He took so long to answer and there was a broken sound as her panic and worry built up further. When he finally did answer, it wasn't the one she wanted at all. She wanted a lie, wanted reassurance that Hashtag was going to come back, that she wasn't gone for good like Nightshade seemed to be. She whines at the memory of her sibling.

She buries her face in her hands, making a pathetic sound.]

What if I go away to?!

[She wasn't sure what was worse, Hashtag went home but was never coming back or the idea that Hashtag went someplace dangerous and scary and the possibility that Twitch could go there too, or someplace much much worse. All the terrifying possibilities were piling themselves higher and higher in her head.]

[there's no way to predict when it'll happen. no way to know where they go. no way to know if they'll come back. somehow this kind of nightmare being brought about from a broken space bridge feels like some form of overdue karma.

he can tell she wants to be told she won't, and optimus doesn't want to lie to her. he doesn't want to tell her that she'll always be safe and that she'll never disappear to parts unknown and be taken away from her family again when he can't guarantee that she never will. he has failed to provide to her even the most basic assurance that any mech should have. they couldn't even stop mandroid coming back and hurting the maltos again, if hashtag's previous comments about future events are anything to go by.]

You won't. [what else can he say? she's a panicking child who's just lost her sibling.] You're safe. I'll be here as long as you want me to be.

[The words only provide a small comfort but here eyes shine with dismay.]

But you didn't protect Hashtag. You didn't keep her from disappearing.

[She regrets the words as soon as she says them. She knows, somewhere, that this isn't his fault, but she needs to throw her panic and fear somewhere. She needs to ground the blame, to find a way to make sense of things.

In all her life, Twitch has never been so scared to be alone.]

[and who could blame her for feeling that way? the corner of his mouth twitches slightly, but otherwise, he doesn't shift. optimus keeps his hand around her-- it'll help her a bit if she can let some of the emotion out instead of pushing it all down.]

We can still work to fix it. [this is not a lie. he fully intends to try and push harder into what anyone knows about the bridge to get some kind of answer that isn't just a vague shrug.] I'll stay with you.

[he says that second part again, trying to affirm to her he isn't going anywhere. insomuch as he even can.]

[Twitch curls in on herself a little more. As scared as she is, as much as she's lashing out, there is still a comfort in having Optimus here. She knows he means it when he says he'll stay.]

What are we supposed to do now? Just wait?

[It's clear she isn't a fan of this idea, but she can't imagine what else there is.]

I have messaged a couple of people who may have answers. I'll let you know when the conversations have returned productive results. [still, he keeps his hand around her, aware the answers will probably not be satisfying at all. optimus can't help but naively hope, though.] ...I am going to clean up slightly, if you want to help. Don't-- if you don't feel up to it.

[Well, it was something... She wasn't sure what other kind of answers there was to be had at this point. Even if they weren't the answers she wanted.

She sniffled and sat up a little.]

I'll help.

[She really wanted to curl up in a ball and cry. Or maybe fight something. Or both at the same time. but at least helping Optimus gave her something to do, made her feel like she was helping someone.]
